SubHelm

Best subscription tracker apps for iPhone in 2026

First, the disclosure: we make one of the apps on this list. SubHelm is ours, so read that entry with the scepticism it deserves. The other entries are written the way we’d explain the market to a friend, including the cases where you shouldn’t pick our app.

The real decision comes first, because it sorts the whole category:

Are you willing to connect your bank account? If yes, one kind of app finds subscriptions for you automatically. If no, you want a manual tracker, and the contest is about how painless the entry and reminders are.

The comparison at a glance

App Finds subs via Price model Bank connection
SubHelm Catalogue, manual, receipt scan Free, optional Pro Never
Bobby Manual, service library One-time unlock Never
SubTracker Manual Free tier, paid Plus Never
Rocket Money Bank transactions Free tier, paid Premium Required for detection
Apple’s Subscriptions list Automatic (Apple-billed only) Free Never

Apple’s built-in list: the free baseline

Before installing anything, open Settings, your name, Subscriptions. Everything billed through Apple is already listed there with prices and renewal dates, and you can cancel on the spot.

Its limit is scope: Netflix, Spotify, your gym and anything billed directly by the company never appears. If most of your subscriptions are Apple-billed, the built-in list plus a calendar reminder may honestly be enough. Every app below exists because most people’s subscriptions don’t fit in it.

Rocket Money: automatic, if you’ll share your bank

Rocket Money connects to your bank and reads transactions to detect recurring charges, and it’s the best-known app doing so. Detection is genuinely convenient: charges appear without typing, including ones you’d forgotten. The free tier tracks subscriptions; the paid tier adds features like bill negotiation.

The trade is structural, not a flaw in the app: detection requires sharing your transaction history, coverage ends at the accounts you connect, and irregular or annual charges still need manual tidying. If you’re comfortable with that trade and mostly want discovery, it’s the strongest pick of its kind. If the idea of a money app reading your statement is what you’re trying to avoid, this category isn’t for you; we wrote about that trade-off in detail.

Bobby: the minimalist veteran

Bobby is the long-standing iPhone favourite for manual tracking: pick services from a large library, set the price and cycle, done. Data stays on the device, and the full version is a small one-time purchase rather than a subscription, which people rightly love in this category.

Its trade-offs are the flip side of its simplicity: entry is fully manual, and it has stayed deliberately small rather than growing features like receipt capture or an assistant. If you want the least app possible and a one-time price, Bobby has earned its reputation.

SubTracker: generous free manual tracking

SubTracker is another capable manual tracker with a genuinely useful free tier for unlimited subscriptions, with reminders and extras in a paid Plus plan. If you want to track a long list for free and don’t mind paying only when you need alerts, it’s a fair deal.

SubHelm: ours, so judge accordingly

SubHelm is built on one conviction: a subscription tracker should never see your money. There’s no account and no server; your list lives on your iPhone and syncs through your own iCloud. Adding is fast three ways: a 200+ service catalogue, manual entry, or pointing the camera at a receipt, which is read on-device and never uploaded. You get one real monthly and yearly total across currencies, reminders before every renewal and before each free trial converts, widgets, and an on-device assistant.

When not to pick it: if you want bank-driven automatic discovery, that’s Rocket Money’s category, and we don’t compete in it on purpose. And if you want a one-time price rather than free-plus-optional-Pro, Bobby’s model may suit you better.

The short version

  • Most subscriptions Apple-billed, minimal needs: the built-in Settings list, free.
  • Want automatic detection and fine with bank access: Rocket Money.
  • Want the smallest possible manual app, one-time price: Bobby.
  • Long list, free, reminders can wait: SubTracker.
  • Privacy first, fast entry, reminders that catch trials: SubHelm, and it’s free to try.
