Rocket Money alternatives that skip the bank login

People search for Rocket Money alternatives for two different reasons, and they lead to different answers. Some want the same bank-connected experience from a different brand. Others like the idea of a subscription tracker but not the part where it reads their bank account. This guide is mostly for the second group, because that’s the choice we understand best; our own app is in that camp, and we say so where relevant.

What you’re actually replacing

Rocket Money’s core loop: connect your bank, let it detect recurring charges, get alerts, optionally pay for extras like bill negotiation. It does this well. The reasons people look elsewhere tend to be:

  • The data trade. Detection means sharing your transaction history, and your full spending pattern is exactly the kind of data that gets monetised in aggregate across this industry.
  • Coverage gaps. It sees the accounts you connect, nothing else: the card you didn’t link, PayPal, a family member’s account, app-store bundles.
  • Paying a subscription to manage subscriptions. The free tier is real, but the useful extras sit behind Premium, and that irony wears on people.

If none of these bother you, keep Rocket Money; switching brands within the same bank-connected model rarely improves much. If they do, the alternatives below all work without a single bank credential.

Apple’s built-in Subscriptions list, free

Settings, your name, Subscriptions. Every Apple-billed subscription with renewal dates and a cancel button. No app to install. Its blind spot is everything billed outside Apple, which for most people is the bigger half. Start here anyway; it takes one minute and shrinks the problem.

Bobby, the one-time-purchase minimalist

Manual entry against a large service library, data on your device, a small one-time unlock instead of a subscription. The best pick if you want the least app and the simplest possible price. You do all entry yourself, and reminders are basic by design.

SubTracker, free manual tracking at volume

Unlimited manual tracking on the free tier, with reminders in the paid Plus plan. A fair choice for a long list on a budget.

SubHelm, the privacy-first pick (ours)

SubHelm is our app, built specifically as the anti-bank-login tracker, so weigh this entry accordingly. No account, no server, nothing to log in to: your list stays on the iPhone and syncs through your own iCloud. Entry is the part we worked hardest on, because manual trackers live or die there: a 200+ service catalogue, quick manual add, or receipt scanning read entirely on-device. It keeps one honest monthly and yearly total across currencies and reminds you before every renewal and before trials convert. Free, with an optional Pro upgrade.

The honest limitation is the same as every app in this list: nothing is auto-detected, so setup costs a few minutes. Why we think that trade is right, in detail: do you need to connect your bank to track subscriptions?

Choosing in one paragraph

Stay with Rocket Money if automatic detection matters more than where your transaction data goes. Use Apple’s list if your subscriptions are mostly Apple-billed. Pick Bobby for a one-time price and maximum simplicity, SubTracker for free volume, and SubHelm if you want entry that doesn’t feel like a chore, reminders that catch trials, and a tracker that couldn’t read your bank account even if it wanted to. Whichever you choose, do the yearly-cost audit once; that’s where the actual savings are.
