How to cancel ChatGPT Plus
Published
ChatGPT Plus bills from wherever you subscribed: OpenAI directly if you signed up on the web, Apple if you tapped subscribe inside the iOS app. The charge on your statement tells you which: OpenAI’s name means web, an Apple charge means the App Store.
If you subscribed on the web
- Sign in at chatgpt.com in a browser.
- Open Settings, then the subscription or plan section.
- Choose to manage your subscription and cancel; the billing portal confirms the end date.
Plus features keep working until the period you’ve paid for runs out, then the account drops back to the free tier. Your chat history stays either way.
If you subscribed in the iOS app
Open Settings, your name, Subscriptions, tap ChatGPT and cancel there. Everything that applies to Apple-billed subscriptions applies here, including the big one: deleting the app cancels nothing.
Worth knowing
- Check for a duplicate. It’s genuinely common to subscribe on the web, later tap upgrade in the app, and end up paying twice through two billers. If you see both an OpenAI and an Apple charge, cancel one today; this exact failure is why a single list of everything you pay for is worth keeping.
- AI subscriptions stack up fast across tools; the twenty-dollars-a-month tier feels small until you’re paying four of them. The yearly-cost audit is the antidote.
